One Tilda, Two Techniques

I love my Copics, but I can't help admiring those who can colour with distress inks.  One example is Angie, and so very nice of her to put up a tutorial on how she does it! I thought I'd give it a try myself this time using the Honey Tilda that I got in a RAK from Zoe not too long ago. I altered two plain coasters into tags, using similar stamp sets but with different styles. I've also coloured one Tilda with Copics, and the other with distress inks.

Tools and materials used: Plain paper coaster, Copics, Imaginisce Twitterpated Paper, Rock candy stickles, Copics, Distress inkpad in Tea Dye and Fired Brick, Grungepaper, Cuttlebug Script embossing folder, Brad, Eyelets, Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Stamp, Glossy Accent

On this first coaster tag, I covered the base with a DP before using TH stamp on it. Then I added a grunge flower that has been dry embossed and inked with Distress ink. I'm used to using Copics by now, so colouring this Tilda was not that difficult. I added stickles to the wings to make it all sparkly :)

Tools and materials used: Plain coaster, Distress Ink in Fired Brick, Peeled Paint, Walnut Stain, Mustard, Scattered Straw, Mustard Seed and Tea Dye, Copics, Tim Holtz Stamp, Hero Arts Snowflake Stamp, Mini Misters, Ink it Up! inkpad in Chalk white, Perfect Pearls in Iridiscent Green, Crackle paint, Lace, Rock Candy Stickles, Cuttlebug die cut

The 2nd tag proved to be quite a challenge for me. For the coaster base, I used Wrinkle free distress technique as per Tim Holtz Compendium of Curiosities, but I added a bit of perfect pearls into my mini mister. Once the base was dry, I slapped on some rock candy crackle paint randomly. And then I stamped on the snow flakes using white ink. The Perfect Pearls really gives a nice effect to the background :)

Honey Tilda here was coloured with distress inks *sweat*. Angie made it look really simple, but it certainly wasn't the case for me. I wasn't used to water colouring and as I kept on adding water to the paper, it began to pill :S Almost had to throw it away and start fresh. And then, I also didn't realise Angie had used Copics to colour her skin, while I attempted to colour her with Scattered Straw distress ink and she looks absolutely horrid! As soon as I realised the colour was all wrong, I referred back to Angie's tutorial and saw that it was Copics....YIKES! Serves me right for not reading it properly before I started :P Thank goodness I managed to salvage it - as soon as the distress ink was dry, I layered the Copics colour on top of it, hence the darker skin colour compared to the first tag. I also used rock candy stickles on her wings :)

Which one is your favourite? The Copics one or the Distressed Inks one? ;)

I'm submitting the tags to the following challenges:
1. Studio L3 Compendium of Curiosity Challenge #16 - Wrinkle Free Distress (Mondays)
2. Simon Says Stamp & Show - Distressed/Sanded (Mondays)
3. Just Magnolia #75 - Anything Goes (Fridays)

You did a wonderful job with the wrinkle free distress technique, and I'd never have guessed that you didn't color with Distress Inks all the time!

Your little Tilda looks fabulous! They both do, in fact, and your designs are sweet and lovely. This is a great example of how you can use the same stamps but get such fun variations depending on the colors and papers you choose.

Thanks so much for sharing these adorable tags with us at the CCC!
